THE IMPORTANCE OF A CLEAN RESTROOM
Restroom cleanliness is very important to your facility. An unsanitary restroom can lead to germs that can affect allergies or bacteria which can cause diseases and is one reason why restrooms need to be cleaned daily. Repeat customers can be the direct result of sanitary or unsanitary restrooms. Employee productivity or unproductivity have been known to be affected indirectly by unclean restrooms. As a result, different aspects of your business can be affected by this one essential idea.
Germs and bacteria can affect allergies and cause disease respectively. A properly cleaned restroom can prevent both of these. A properly cleaned restroom is cleaned daily and starts from top to bottom. First, ceilings and vents are dusted for cobwebs and also to bring the dust to the floor. Next fixtures and the tops of mirrors are dusted and right after that the mirror is cleaned and polished. Hand dryers are disinfected also. Then, the tops of partition doors are wiped with a disinfectant cleaning solution and then disinfecting both sides of the partition doors will follow. Now the toilet bowls are disinfected inside and outside along with both sides of the toilet seats and the base of the toilet. Next, the countertops and sinks are disinfected. Faucets are disinfected and polished. Next trash receptacles are emptied and disinfected. Liners are to be replaced daily due to the build up of germs and bacteria from paper towels or sanitary napkins. The floor is swept to remove all debris. Gum or other items that may be stuck to the floor are removed. The floor is mopped with a disinfectant floor cleansing solution. Last, door handles, hand plates and kick plates are disinfected. Following all of these procedures can insure that a restroom is cleaned and sanitized properly. Not only have I given you these procedures for knowledge but also for you to inspect the work after a professional commercial cleaning. You cannot properly inspect restrooms without fully knowing directly what to look for.
Some places of business have restrooms for their customer's use. Walking into an unclean restroom can turn your customer away. The best example is a gas station restroom. Following the above procedures and maintaining them can result in repeat business. Using the same example, a customer stops at a gas station to get gas and use the restroom. An unclean restroom will rush that customer out of there and into their car without purchasing anything or returning again. Now let's say that same restroom is clean, the customer is likely to purchase something and return, all because they felt comfortable. Repeat customers are directly affected by clean restrooms which can directly affect the success of your business.
Imagine walking past your employees discussing the cleanliness of the restrooms. Unclean restrooms can create long conversations. Also, employees are reluctant to use unclean restrooms and will travel to use clean ones. Long conversations of this sort or long travel can indirectly affect the productivity of employees. Clean restrooms can lead to happy employees and happy employees have a high productivity rate. Indirectly, you have increased the productivity of employees without a word or direct action.
Already, this one essential idea, "A clean and sanitized restroom," has changed different aspects of your facility and business. Germs and bacteria are a non factor because of daily and proper cleanings. Customers are sure to return and even tell a friend about your great business and facility. Employees are busy doing their assigned work. Many probably have never looked at it from this point of view but from my experiences, this one essential idea is a necessary one.
